Omni Bridgeway and IFC Partnering on Distressed Asset Recovery in the MENA region.

Litigation Finance Primer

Omni Bridgeway and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of the World Bank Group, have jointly made available $100 million to establish a new investment vehicle, which will be managed by Omni Bridgeway’s regional expertise center in Dubai. The investment partnership between Omni Bridgeway and IFC is aimed at distressed asset recovery and dispute resolution funding in the Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia regions.

The project is part of IFC’s USD 5+ billion global Distressed Asset Recovery Program (DARP) and aims to assist banks in the Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia regions with the funding and cross border legal enforcement of high value (> USD 2 million) corporate and SME non-performing loans (NPLs). The project allows banks to partially sell, de-risk or monetize their NPLs by applying the unique expertise of Omni Bridgeway in the funding and management of cross border dispute resolution proceedings.

The regional expertise center – in which IFC has taken a minority interest – targets to invest in, manage and resolve up to USD 1 billion of NPLs and associated legal disputes. The project will initially focus on Pakistan, Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey, Greece and Lebanon.

Through this initiative, Omni Bridgeway is pioneering dispute resolution funding and legal enforcement expertise in the MENA region. The initiative builds on the 30-year track record and expertise of Omni Bridgeway as a specialist in funding and managing cross border legal (enforcement) proceedings in the Middle East, (North) Africa and (Central) Asia regions. The project reinforces Omni Bridgeway’s position as the leading enforcement funding specialist.
